I love a broken woman. A woman as if forever wounded in a flesh deeper than flesh. A woman full of miraculous rubble: ruins of light. A woman, bearer of an exhausted soul, who remains on guard when it comes to love. Vigilant, a soldier lost on the battlefield after the war—"annihilated," but standing. Waiting for peace. But how could she still believe in it? And forget the horror, immense and unthinkable, that leaves her heart crumpled and full of aches and pains. This heart, already stripped, flayed, torn: tired for a long time, which, to survive, abandons its innocence once too often. It is from this one time too many that I dream of healing her. What should I do? Approach gently, perhaps. Take her hand. And lead her away. Take her far away. Safely. But where? Elsewhere. Into a cotton room. Yes. But leave the door open. That she not be a prisoner. Never. And love her. Love her deeply. Without compromise. Can one love like that? Without respite. Without respite: to love beyond love. I want to love her enough to teach her to love herself again. To have the victory that she no longer needs me. And hope that she stays out of desire, and not out of necessity.
